Video For My Argument
This video is showing how coaches and the schools are able to make money of the college athletes, but it is illegal for the athlete to make money for themselves.

Dear Editor in Chief,
I am writing to
you about the controversy between college athletes receiving payment. I feel
college athletes should receive pay. I was brought to this outgoing argument
when it was being debated on national TV. Everyone on the opposing side felt
college athletes should not complain about pay when they are given a free
college education. People failed to realize athletes have things they really
need, but they cannot afford because they have no money. Things such as food,
clothing, and water are not included in that free college education. Being so
busy with sports, athletes have little time to find a real job.
There
should be no excuse why college athletes shouldn’t receive pay. They put their
bodies at risk for nothing but a “congrats” after the game. Give them a free
education, but also something extra they can actually live on.
Sincerely, TaJay

We Should Be Paid To Play
It’s been a wild year with the
NCAA. So many people have argued that college athletes should receive pay. I’ve
notice many college stars over the years have major punishments because they
were accused of receiving illegal pay. Players like Dez Bryant and Reggie Bush
were a few of the ones whose punishments were harsh. Reggie had his Heisman
taken away and Dez was suspended his senior for ten games because the NCAA
thought he was receiving illegal pay. Those players put in a lot of work and
their body on the line for basically nothing. Every star college athlete should
receive some type of pay.
In my research I’ve notice many
people argue on both sides of this topic. I'm on the side that says college
athletes should receive payment. There are many reasons why you could say the
athletes should get paid. In the article “is pay for play ok for college
athletes” by Al Neuharth it states that “Students need to experience earning
money honestly and legally, in addition to getting good grades.” This was
actually stated by Steve Spurrier , the South Carolina Gamecocks head coach.
This quote shows that we are not the only ones who believe the college athletes
should be getting paid. Head coaches of many big programs, such as South
Carolina, believe athletes need to be paid. Also in that same article, Coach
Spurrier says “College scholarship students who spend a lot of time in sports
or other extracurricular activities deserves cash rewards, in addition to free
tuition and room and board.” This statement shows that coach Spurrier
understands how college players think. Even though the college athlete received
a free tuition they still have needs they have to buy like food and clothing.
Being so busy with sports and classes they don't have time to get a job and be
able to afford the things they really need. I'm pretty sure a coach would much
have a player that’s alive then dead because he couldn't afford to buy food.
There is a reason why I decided to
do this topic. I never understood why college athletes put in all that hard
work for nothing but a “congrats” at the end of the game. I want to see the
exact reason why it’s illegal to pay a star college athlete. I can see why some
might argue and say that the school is already paying for the student to attend
the school, but that’s not the case for every student. Some college stars today
didn't get a scholarship; they were actually walk ons who never was seen by the
school. There has to be more to the reason why it’s so illegal. We can pay an
NFL rookie one million dollars but we can't pay a well-known college star a
single dime. I don't know about you but that doesn't make any sense at all. It
brings me back to my question, why can't a star college athlete receive any
type of payment?
Poem
I’m Not Number 1 for nothing
I HAVE broken many records..
I HAVE destroyed many dreams..
I don’t play for myself
I play for my team
I have over 30 scholarships
From all over the nation
I don’t know where to go
I was told to be patient
I am thinking Georgia
Maybe Tennessee
How about Florida
I would love Miami
I'm 6 foot 1
225 pounds !
Muscles as solid as a rock !
No one can stop me now
It is my senior year
We made it to the championship
game
I threw over 200 yards
Yea, I should be in the high
school hall of fame
Now it is signing day
I have this one college on my
mind
I have chosen Alabama
Go Roll Tide !
I’m number 1 coming out of high
school
Football is my heart
Without that pigskin in my
hands
My life will fall apart
I received a full ride
scholarship
Free books AND free education
It did not come with free food
or water though
That was not a good creation
The season is almost over
I am runer up for the Heisman !
I did not receive a single dime
for my amazing season
That is like stealing money
from a blind man
It is the national Championship
game
Everyone in the country is
EXCITED
My players and I are getting
pumped and crazy
As if we are about to start a
riot
It is the 3rd quarter
We are winning 21 to 7
Our confidence is high
As high as the clouds of Heaven
The final play was 14 iso
Is that the quarterback sneak?
Before I called hike
I glanced over the line to take
a peak
The center snapped me the ball
I caught the ball and was hit
in the back
Then the impossible happened
I felt an unusual crack...
I tried to get up
You know, walk it off
But I couldn’t
The feeling in my knee was weak
and soft...
WE WON THE GAME
But I lost my football career
Turns out I broke my right leg
My mind and body was full of
fear
Everything was getting worst
My life began to go down hill
I could not work due to my
broken leg
So I had no money to pay the
medical bills!
A year has past
No more football for me...
The closest I get to football
Is watching it on TV
I once was the number one
football player
Now I am a sales clerk
Knowing I could have played pro
MAN...the thought really hurts
If I was paid to play
Everything would have been fine
Now I’m in the gutter
struggling
To even come up with a single
dime!!
I had everything going for me
Everybody was on my side
Then...BOOM...I broke my leg
And ALL my fans left me behind
I BROKE many records
I ONCED pushed all the other
players aside
Now I’m just an average man
Fighting for any type of
M...O...N...E...Y
